Need advice about my mother-in-law?

I have been with my husband for 3yrs now and married for almost a year now, things were fine between my mother-in-law and I until my husband and I got married. It all started when we were going to have our reception, my husband and I wanted a adult reception, and my mother-in-law told us that if my husbands nephew couln't go then she would not be there for it. We let him go and everything but I couln't belive how rude she acted just because of that. Since then she has been very controling and verbaly abusive towads my husband and I if we don't jump for her or my brother-in-law if they need money for something she expects my husband and I to drop everything to give it to them regardless if you have it or not. I don't mind helping them out once in awhile but this is like all the time, and they never pay you back. my mil told me she wan't my husband and I to get a divorce because I didn't give my bil any money. my husband is in the middle of it and it is taring my husband and I apart.
